<p class='english'>Nephi is commanded to build a ship—His brethren oppose him—He exhorts them by recounting the history of God’s dealings with Israel—Nephi is filled with the power of God—His brethren are forbidden to touch him, lest they wither as a dried reed. About 592–591 B.C.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>1</span>  事情是這樣的，我們再在曠野中行進；從那時起，我們朝著偏東的方向前進。我們在曠野的旅途中飽受折磨；我們的婦女在曠野中生下了孩子。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>1</span> And it came to pass that we did again take our journey in the wilderness; and we did travel nearly eastward from that time forth. And we did travel and <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng wade] through much affliction in the wilderness; and our <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng women] did bear children in the wilderness.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>2</span> And so great were the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng blessings] of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng raw] <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng meat] in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>3</span> And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth nourish them, and <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng strengthen]them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; wherefore, he did <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng provide] means for us while we did sojourn in the wilderness.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>4</span>  我們逗留了許多年，是的，我們在曠野中八年。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>4</span> And we did sojourn for the space of many years, yea, even eight years in the wilderness.</p>

And we beheld the sea, which we called Irreantum, which, being interpreted, is many waters.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>6</span> And it came to pass that we did pitch our tents by the seashore; and notwithstanding we had suffered many <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng afflictions] and much difficulty, yea, even so much that we cannot write them all, we were exceedingly rejoiced when we came to the seashore; and we called the place Bountiful, because of its much fruit.</p>

And it came to pass that I arose and went up into the mountain, and cried unto the Lord.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>9</span> And I said: Lord, whither shall I go that I may find ore to molten, that I may make <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng tools] to construct the ship after the manner which thou hast shown unto me?</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>10</span>  事情是這樣的，主告訴我應往何處找礦石，以鑄造工具。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>10</span> And it came to pass that the Lord told me whither I should go to find ore, that I might make tools.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>13</span> And I will also be your <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng light] in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng promised] land; and ye shall <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng know] that it is by me that ye are led.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>14</span>  是的，主還說：你們到達應許地後，必<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 知道]我，主，是<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 神]；也必知道我，主，曾救你們脫離毀滅；是的，必知道是我帶你們出耶路撒冷地。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>14</span> Yea, and the Lord said also that: After ye have arrived in the promised land, ye shall <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng know] that I, the Lord, am <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng God]; and that I, the Lord, did <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng deliver] you from destruction; yea, that I did bring you out of the land of Jerusalem.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>15</span>  所以，我，尼腓，盡力遵守主的誡命，也勸告我的哥哥要忠信和努力。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>15</span> Wherefore, I, Nephi, did strive to keep the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng commandments] of the Lord, and I did <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng exhort] my brethren to faithfulness and diligence.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>17</span> And when my brethren saw that I was about to <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng build] a ship, they began to <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng murmur] against me, saying: Our brother is a fool, for he thinketh that he can build a ship; yea, and he also thinketh that he can cross these great waters.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>18</span>  我哥哥就這樣埋怨我，他們不想工作，因為他們不相信我能造船，也不相信我蒙受了主的指示。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>18</span> And thus my brethren did <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng complain] against me, and were desirous that they might not labor, for they did not <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng believe] that I could build a ship; neither would they believe that I was instructed of the Lord.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>19</span> And now it came to pass that I, Nephi, was exceedingly sorrowful because of the hardness of their hearts; and now when they saw that I began to be sorrowful they were glad in their hearts, insomuch that they did <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng rejoice] over me, saying: We knew that ye could not construct a ship, for we knew that ye were lacking in judgment; wherefore, thou canst not accomplish so great a work.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>20</span> And thou art like unto our father, led away by the foolish<sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng imaginations] of his heart; yea, he hath led us out of the land of Jerusalem, and we have wandered in the wilderness for these many years; and our women have toiled, being big with child; and they have borne children in the wilderness and suffered all things, save it were death; and it would have been better that they had died before they came out of Jerusalem than to have suffered these afflictions.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>21</span>  看啊，這麼多年來，我們一直在曠野中受苦，我們本來可以享用我們的財產和繼承的土地，是的，我們本來可以快快樂樂。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>21</span> Behold, these many years we have suffered in the wilderness, which time we might have enjoyed our possessions and the land of our inheritance; yea, and we might have been happy.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>22</span>  我們知道在耶路撒冷地的人是<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 正義]的人民；因為他們依照摩西律法，遵守主的規章和法典，以及祂的一切誡命；所以，我們知道他們是正義的人民；可是我們的父親論斷他們，還把我們帶出來，因為我們都聽他的話；是的，我們的弟弟也跟他一樣。我哥哥就用這樣的話發牢騷、埋怨我們。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>22</span> And we know that the people who were in the land of Jerusalem were a <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng righteous] people; for they kept the statutes and judgments of the Lord, and all his commandments, according to the law of Moses; wherefore, we know that they are a righteous people; and our father hath judged them, and hath led us away because we would hearken unto his words; yea, and our brother is like unto him. And after this manner of language did my brethren murmur and complain against us.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>23</span>  事情是這樣的，我，尼腓，對他們說：如果我們的祖先以色列兒女，不聽從主的話，你們想他們能從埃及人的手中被帶出來嗎？</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>23</span> And it came to pass that I, Nephi, spake unto them, saying: Do ye believe that our fathers, who were the children of Israel, would have been led away out of the hands of the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng Egyptians] if they had not hearkened unto the words of the Lord?</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>24</span> Yea, do ye suppose that they would have been led out of bondage, if the Lord had not commanded Moses that he should<sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng lead] them out of bondage?</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>25</span>  你們知道當時的以色列兒女身受<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 束縛]；你們也知道他們身負難以負荷的<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 工作]，所以，你們知道如果他們能脫離束縛，對他們來說一定是件好事。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>25</span> Now ye know that the children of Israel were in <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng bondage]; and ye know that they were laden with <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng tasks], which were grievous to be borne; wherefore, ye know that it must needs be a good thing for them, that they should be <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng brought] out of bondage.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>26</span>  你們知道<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 摩西]是奉主的命令去做那件偉大的事工；你們也知道藉著他的<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 話]，紅海的水向兩旁分開，他們就在乾地上通過。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>26</span> Now ye know that <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng Moses] was commanded of the Lord to do that great work; and ye know that by his <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng word] the waters of the Red Sea were divided hither and thither, and they passed through on dry ground.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>27</span>  但是，你們知道，那些埃及人，也就是法老的軍隊，都淹死在紅海中。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>27</span> But ye know that the Egyptians were <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng drowned] in the Red Sea, who were the armies of Pharaoh.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>29</span> Yea, and ye also know that Moses, by his word according to the power of God which was in him, <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng smote] the rock, and there came forth water, that the children of Israel might quench their thirst.</p>

<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>31</span>  事情是這樣的，依照祂的話，祂<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 毀滅]了他們；依照祂的話，祂<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=zho 引導]了他們；而依照祂的話，祂也為他們做所有的事；若不藉著祂的話，則一事無成。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>31</span> And it came to pass that according to his word he did <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng destroy]them; and according to his word he did <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng lead] them; and according to his word he did do all things for them; and there was not any thing done save it were by his word.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>33</span> And now, do ye suppose that the children of this land, who were in the land of promise, who were driven out by our fathers, do ye suppose that they were righteous? Behold, I say unto you, Nay.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>34</span> Do ye suppose that our fathers would have been more choice than they if they had been righteous? I say unto you, Nay.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>35</span> Behold, the Lord esteemeth all <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng flesh] in one; he that is<sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng righteous] is <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng favored] of God. But behold, this <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng people] had rejected every word of God, and they were ripe in iniquity; and the fulness of the wrath of God was upon them; and the Lord did curse the land against them, and bless it unto our fathers; yea, he did curse it against them unto their destruction, and he did bless it unto our fathers unto their obtaining power over it.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>37</span> And he <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng raiseth] up a righteous nation, and destroyeth the nations of the wicked.</p>

Ye have seen an <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng angel], and he spake unto you; yea, ye have heard his voice from time to time; and he hath spoken unto you in a still small voice, but ye were <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng past] feeling, that ye could not feel his words; wherefore, he has spoken unto you like unto the voice of thunder, which did cause the earth to shake as if it were to divide asunder.</p>

O, then, why is it, that ye can be so hard in your hearts?</p>

And they fell down before me, and were about to <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng worship] me, but I would not suffer them, saying: I am thy brother, yea, even thy younger brother; wherefore, worship the Lord thy God, and honor thy father and thy mother, that thy <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/17?lang=eng days] may be long in the land which the Lord thy God shall give thee.</p>
