<p class='english'>The Nephites keep the law of Moses, look forward to the coming of Christ, and prosper in the land—Many prophets labor to keep the people in the way of truth. About 399–361 B.C.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>1</span> Now behold, I, Jarom, write a few words according to the commandment of my father, Enos, that our <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng genealogy] may be kept.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>2</span> And as <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng these] plates are <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng small], and as these things are <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng written]for the intent of the benefit of our brethren the <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng Lamanites], wherefore, it must needs be that I write a little; but I shall not write the things of my prophesying, nor of my revelations. For what could I write more than my fathers have written? For have not they revealed the plan of salvation? I say unto you, Yea; and this sufficeth me.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>3</span> Behold, it is expedient that much should be done among this people, because of the hardness of their hearts, and the deafness of their ears, and the blindness of their minds, and the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng stiffness] of their necks; nevertheless, God is exceedingly merciful unto them, and has not as yet <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng swept] them off from the face of the land.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>4</span>  我們之中有許多人接受了許多<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 啟示]，因為他們不全是倔強的人。凡不倔強且有信心的，都能與神聖之靈<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 溝通]，神聖之靈按照人類兒女的信心，向他們顯示。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>4</span> And there are many among us who have many <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng revelations], for they are not all <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng stiffnecked]. And as many as are not stiffnecked and have faith, have <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng communion] with the Holy Spirit, which maketh manifest unto the children of men, according to their faith.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>5</span> And now, behold, two hundred years had passed away, and the people of Nephi had waxed strong in the land. They observed to<sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng keep] the law of Moses and the <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng sabbath] day holy unto the Lord. And they <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng profaned] not; neither did they <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng blaspheme]. And the<sup class='englishSup'>e</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng laws] of the land were exceedingly strict.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>6</span>  他們分散在地面各處，拉曼人也如此。他們人數非常眾多，遠超過尼腓人；他們喜愛<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 殺人]，且飲獸血。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>6</span> And they were scattered upon <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng much] of the face of the land, and the Lamanites also. And they were exceedingly more <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng numerous]than were they of the Nephites; and they loved <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng murder] and would drink the <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng blood] of beasts.</p>

But our <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng kings] and our <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng leaders] were mighty men in the faith of the Lord; and they taught the people the ways of the Lord; wherefore, we withstood the Lamanites and swept them away out of <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng our] lands, and began to fortify our cities, or whatsoever place of our inheritance.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>8</span>  我們人口激增，遍佈地面，擁有極多金子、銀子、寶物、精緻的木工、建築、機械，還有許多鐵、銅、黃銅和鋼等，可製造各種耕種的工具和作戰的<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 武器]──是的，利箭、箭筒、短矛、標槍及做各種作戰的準備。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>8</span> And we multiplied exceedingly, and spread upon the face of the land, and became exceedingly rich in <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng gold], and in silver, and in precious things, and in fine <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng workmanship] of wood, in buildings, and in <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng machinery], and also in iron and copper, and brass and steel, making all manner of tools of every kind to till the ground, and <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng weapons] of war—yea, the sharp pointed arrow, and the quiver, and the dart, and the javelin, and all preparations for war.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>9</span>  我們準備好迎戰拉曼人，他們無法勝過我們。主對我們祖先說的話應驗了，他說：只要你們遵守我的誡命，你們必在此地昌盛。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>9</span> And thus being prepared to meet the Lamanites, they did not prosper against us. But the word of the Lord was verified, which he spake unto our fathers, saying that: <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng Inasmuch] as ye will keep my commandments ye shall <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng prosper] in the land.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>10</span>  事情是這樣的，主的先知以神的話嚴厲警告尼腓人，如果他們不遵守誡命，且陷入罪中，必從這地面上被<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 毀滅]。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>10</span> And it came to pass that the prophets of the Lord did threaten the people of Nephi, according to the word of God, that if they did not keep the commandments, but should fall into transgression, they should be <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng destroyed] from off the face of the land.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>11</span> Wherefore, the prophets, and the priests, and the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng teachers], did labor diligently, exhorting with all long-suffering the people to<sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng diligence]; teaching the <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng law] of Moses, and the intent for which it was given; persuading them to <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng look] forward unto the Messiah, and believe in him to come <sup class='englishSup'>e</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng as] though he already was. And after this manner did they teach them.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>12</span>  事情是這樣的，他們這樣做，才使人民免於從地面上被<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 毀滅]，他們用話<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 刺痛]他們的心，不斷喚醒他們悔改。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>12</span> And it came to pass that by so doing they kept them from being <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng destroyed] upon the face of the land; for they did <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng prick]their hearts with the word, <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng continually] stirring them up unto repentance.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>13</span>  事情是這樣的，二百三十八年過去了，這段期間多半在戰爭、紛爭、衝突中度過。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>13</span> And it came to pass that two hundred and thirty and eight years had passed away—after the manner of wars, and<sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng contentions], and dissensions, for the space of <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng much] of the time.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>14</span>  因頁片很小，我，雅龍，不多寫了。但是看啊，我的弟兄們，你們可閱讀<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=zho 另外]的尼腓片，因為看啊，其上按照列王的記載，或他們命令要記載的，刻了我們戰爭的紀錄。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>14</span> And I, Jarom, do not write more, for the plates are <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng small]. But behold, my brethren, ye can go to the <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng other] plates of Nephi; for behold, upon them the records of our wars are engraven, according to the writings of the <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/jarom/1?lang=eng kings], or those which they caused to be written.</p>
