<p class='chinese'>一八三三年二月二十七日，在俄亥俄，嘉德蘭，透過先知約瑟 • 斯密給予的啟示，〔教會史，1:327–329〕。由於早期的弟兄們在聚會中使用菸草，先知因而為此事沉思，進而為這事求問主，結果得到本啟示，稱為智慧語。前面三節原本是先知寫的靈感緒言和說明。</p>
<p class='english'>Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, 27 February 1833 (see History of the Church, 1:327–29). As a consequence of the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings, the Prophet was led to ponder upon the matter; consequently, he inquired of the Lord concerning it. This revelation, known as the Word of Wisdom, was the result. Thefirst three verses were originally written as an inspired introduction and description by the Prophet.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>8</span> And again, tobacco is not for the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng herbs], neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>9</span> And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.</p>

<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>13</span> 它們不被使用是我所喜悅的，只有在冬天，或寒冷的日子，或飢荒的時候才使用。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>13</span> And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng famine], only in times of winter, or of cold, or <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng grain].</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>14</span> 所有的<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/dc/89/14a 穀類]都是指定給人類和獸類使用的，成為生命之柱，不但作為人類，也作為田野的走獸、空中的飛鳥及一切地上奔跑或爬行的野生動物的生命之柱；</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>14</span> All <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng these] is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life, not only for man but for the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and all wild animals that run or creep on the earth;</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>15</span> 而神造這些，只供人類在飢荒和過度飢餓的時候使用。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>15</span> And <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng food] hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>16</span> 所有的穀類作人類的食物都是好的；藤蔓上的果子也是；凡結果子的，無論在地下或地上的都是──</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>16</span> All grain is good for the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng fruit] of man; as also the <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng shall] of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground—</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>17</span> Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>18</span> 凡記得遵行並實踐這些話、遵行誡命的聖徒，將獲得他們肚臍中的<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/dc/89/18a 健康]和他們骨頭中的骨髓；</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>18</span> And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng health] receive<sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng find] in their navel and marrow to their bones;</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>19</span> 也必找到<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/dc/89/19a 智慧]和<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/dc/89/19b 知識]的大寶藏，甚至隱藏的寶藏；</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>19</span> And shall <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng wisdom] <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng treasures] and great <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng knowledge] of <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng run], even hidden treasures;</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>20</span> 也必<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/dc/89/20a 奔跑]卻不困倦，行走卻不疲乏。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>20</span> And shall <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng weary] and not be <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng destroying], and shall walk and not faint.</p>
