<p class='english'>Alma heads a mission to reclaim the apostate Zoramites—The Zoramites deny Christ, believe in a false concept of election, and worship with set prayers—The missionaries are filled with the Holy Spirit—Their afflictions are swallowed up in the joy of Christ. About 74 B.C.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>1</span> Now it came to pass that after the end of Korihor, Alma having received tidings that the Zoramites were perverting the ways of the Lord, and that Zoram, who was their leader, was leading the hearts of the people to <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng bow] down to dumb <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng idols], his heart again began to <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng sicken] because of the iniquity of the people.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>2</span> 得知人民的罪惡是阿爾瑪十分<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/2a 憂傷]的原因；他的心因為卓倫人和尼腓人分離而極為憂傷。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>2</span> For it was the cause of great <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng sorrow] to Alma to know of iniquity among his people; therefore his heart was exceedingly<sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng sorrowful] because of the separation of the Zoramites from the Nephites.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>8</span> Now the Zoramites were <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng dissenters] from the Nephites; therefore they had had the word of God preached unto them.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>9</span> But they had <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng fallen] into great errors, for they would not observe to keep the commandments of God, and his statutes, according to the law of Moses.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>10</span> Neither would they observe the <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng performances] of the church, to continue in prayer and supplication to God daily, that they might not enter into temptation.</p>

<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>13</span> 他們在會堂中央，築了一個臺子，供人站立，這臺子高過人頭，上面只能容納一人。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>13</span> For they had a place built up in the center of their synagogue, a place for standing, which was high above the head; and the top thereof would only admit one person.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>14</span> Therefore, whosoever desired to <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng worship] must go forth and stand upon the top thereof, and stretch forth his hands towards heaven, and cry with a loud voice, saying:</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>15</span> 聖哉，神聖之神；我們相信您是神，我們相信您是神聖的，您過去是靈，現在是靈，永遠都是靈。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>15</span> Holy, holy God; we believe that thou art God, and we believe that thou art holy, and that thou wast a <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng spirit], and that thou art a spirit, and that thou wilt be a spirit forever.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>16</span> 神聖之神，我們相信您把我們和我們的弟兄分開；我們不相信我們弟兄的傳統，那是他們幼稚的祖先傳給他們的；而我們相信您已<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/16a 揀選]我們作您<sup class='chineseSup'>ｂ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/16b 聖潔]的兒女；您也使我們知道將來不會有基督。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>16</span> Holy God, we believe that thou hast separated us from our brethren; and we do not believe in the tradition of our brethren, which was handed down to them by the childishness of their fathers; but we believe that thou hast <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng elected] us to be thy <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng holy]children; and also thou hast made it known unto us that <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng there]shall be <sup class='englishSup'>d</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng no] Christ.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>17</span> 您是昨日、今日、永遠都一樣的；您已<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/17a 揀選]我們，使我們將來必得救；而周遭所有的人則註定必被您的憤怒拋下地獄；神啊，為了那聖潔，我們感謝您；我們也感謝您揀選我們，使我們不致被我們弟兄的愚蠢傳統誘入歧途；那傳統限制他們只相信基督，領他們的心遠離您，我們的神。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>17</span> But thou art the same yesterday, today, and forever; and thou hast <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng elected] us that we shall be saved, whilst all around us are elected to be cast by thy wrath down to hell; for the which holiness, O God, we thank thee; and we also thank thee that thou hast elected us, that we may not be led away after the foolish traditions of our brethren, which doth <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng bind] them down to a belief of Christ, which doth lead their hearts to wander far from thee, our God.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>18</span> 神啊，我們再次感謝您使我們成為精選而聖潔的人民。阿們。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>18</span> And again we thank thee, O God, that we are a chosen and a holy people. Amen.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>19</span> Now it came to pass that after Alma and his brethren and his sons had heard these prayers, they were astonished beyond all measure.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>22</span> Now, from this stand they did offer up, every man, the selfsame prayer unto God, thanking their God that they were chosen of him, and that he did not lead them away after the tradition of their brethren, and that their hearts were not stolen away to believe in things to come, which they knew nothing about.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>23</span> 那人民全都照這方式獻上感謝後，便各自回家，<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/23a 再]也不談他們的神，直到再次聚在一起上聖臺，照他們的方式獻上感謝。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>23</span> Now, after the people had all offered up thanks after this manner, they returned to their homes, <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng never] speaking of their God again until they had assembled themselves together again to the holy stand, to offer up thanks after their manner.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>24</span> 阿爾瑪看了，心中<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/24a 憂傷]；因為他看到他們是個既邪惡又頑固的民族；是的，他看到他們把心放在金子、銀子及一切華美的物品上。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>24</span> Now when Alma saw this his heart was <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng grieved]; for he saw that they were a wicked and a perverse people; yea, he saw that their hearts were set upon gold, and upon silver, and upon all manner of fine goods.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>26</span> And he lifted up his voice to heaven, and <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng cried], saying: O, how long, O Lord, wilt thou suffer that thy servants shall dwell here below in the flesh, to behold such gross wickedness among the children of men?</p>

Behold, O God, they cry unto thee with their mouths, while they are <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng puffed] up, even to greatness, with the vain things of the <sup class='englishSup'>c</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng world].</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>28</span> 我的神啊，您看他們的華服、他們的環飾、他們的<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/28a 手鐲]、他們的金飾，以及所有他們裝飾用的寶物；看啊，他們把心放在這些東西上，卻向您呼求說──神啊，我們感謝您，因為我們是您精選的人民，而別人卻必滅亡。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>28</span> Behold, O my God, their costly apparel, and their ringlets, and their <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng bracelets], and their ornaments of gold, and all their precious things which they are ornamented with; and behold, their hearts are set upon them, and yet they cry unto thee and say—We thank thee, O God, for we are a chosen people unto thee, while others shall perish.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>29</span> 是的，他們還說您已使他們知道將來不會有基督。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>29</span> Yea, and they say that thou hast made it known unto them that there shall be no Christ.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>30</span> O Lord God, how long wilt thou suffer that such wickedness and infidelity shall be among this people? For I am infirm, and such wickedness among this people doth pain my soul.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>31</span> 主啊，我的心極為憂傷；求您<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/31a 藉著]基督安慰我的靈魂。主啊，求您恩准我，使我有力量，能耐心忍受因這人民的罪惡而臨到我的痛苦。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>31</span> O Lord, my heart is exceedingly sorrowful; wilt thou comfort my soul <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng in] Christ. O Lord, wilt thou grant unto me that I may have strength, that I may suffer with patience these <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng afflictions]which shall come upon me, because of the iniquity of this people.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>32</span> 主啊，求您安慰我的靈魂，賜我成功，也賜和我同在的工作者成功──是的，就是艾蒙、亞倫和奧姆納，還有艾繆萊克和齊愛治樂，還有我的<sup class='chineseSup'>ａ</sup>[http://scriptures.lds.org/zh/alma/31/32a 兩個]兒子──主啊，求您安慰所有這些人。是的，求您藉著基督安慰這些人的靈魂。</p>

Yea, wilt thou comfort their souls in Christ.</p>
<p class='chinese'><span class='chineseVerse'>33</span> 求您恩准他們，使他們有力量，能承擔因這人民的罪惡而臨到他們的痛苦。</p>
<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>33</span> Wilt thou grant unto them that they may have strength, that they may <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng bear] their afflictions which shall come upon them because of the iniquities of this people.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>35</span> Behold, O Lord, their <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng souls] are precious, and many of them are our brethren; therefore, give unto us, O Lord, power and wisdom that we may bring these, our brethren, again unto thee.</p>

<p class='english'><span class='englishVerse'>38</span> And the Lord provided for them that they should hunger not, neither should they thirst; yea, and he also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of <sup class='englishSup'>a</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng afflictions], save it were swallowed up in the joy of Christ. Now this was according to the prayer of Alma; and this because he prayed in <sup class='englishSup'>b</sup>[http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/31?lang=eng faith].</p>
