• Before Nephi died he gave the plates he had written on to his younger brother Jacob. Jacob was righteous.
• 尼腓在過世前，把金屬片交給他的弟弟雅各。雅各是個正義的人。

• Nephi told Jacob to write the things that would help the people believe in Jesus Christ.
• 尼腓吩咐雅各寫下能幫助人民相信耶穌基督的事情。

• Nephi gave Jacob the power to be a priest in the Church and to teach the Nephites the word of God.
• 尼腓按立雅各為教會的祭司，讓他有權利去教導尼腓人神的話語。

• After Nephi died many of the Nephites became wicked. Jacob taught the people and told them to repent of the bad things they were doing.
• 尼腓過世後，許多尼腓人開始變得邪惡。雅各去教導人民，並要他們為自己所做的壞事悔改。

• A wicked man named Sherem went among the Nephites, teaching them not to believe in Jesus Christ.

• Sherem told the people that there would be no Christ. Many people believed Sherem.
• 歇雷對人民說不會有基督。許多人相信了歇雷的話。

• Jacob taught the people to believe in Christ. Sherem wanted to argue with Jacob and persuade him that there would be no Christ.
• 雅各教導人民要相信基督。歇雷想和他爭辯，讓雅各相信沒有基督。

• Jacob’s faith in Jesus Christ could not be shaken. He had seen angels and had heard the Lord’s voice. He knew Jesus would come.
• 雅各對基督的信心是不可能動搖的。他會經看過天使、聽過主的聲音，也知道耶穌會來。

• The Holy Ghost was with Jacob as he bore his testimony of Jesus Christ to Sherem.

• Sherem asked to see a sign. He wanted Jacob to provethere is a God. He wanted to see a miracle.
• 歇雷要求看神蹟。他要雅各證明神的存在，想看奇蹟。

• Jacob would not ask God for a sign. He said Sherem already knew that what Jacob had taught was true.
• 雅各說他不會要求神顯現奇蹟。他說歇雷早已知道雅各的教導是正確的。

• Jacob said if God struck Sherem, that would be a sign of God’s power.
• 雅各說，如果神責罰歇雷，就讓那責罰成為象徵神的力量的神蹟吧。

• Sherem immediately fell down. He could not get up for many days.
• 歇雷這時立刻倒在地上，一連好幾天都沒有辦法站起身來。

• Sherem was weak and knew he was going to die. He called the people together.
• 歇雷很虛弱，知道自己快死了，便叫人民集合起來。

• He told them he had lied. He said they should believe in Jesus Christ.
• 他告訴他們他說了謊，並要他們相信耶穌基督。

• After Sherem finished talking to the people, he died. The people felt God’s power, and they fell to the ground.
• 歇雷對人民說完這些話後就死了。人民感受到神的力量，紛紛倒在地上。

• The people began to repent and read the scriptures. They lived in peace and love. Jacob was happy and knew that God had answered his prayers.
• 人民開始悔改並研讀經文。他們和睦相處，相親相愛。雅各非常高興，知道神已經回答了他的祈禱。
